CONTRIBUTE TO
CHARACTER

Learning for Life makes a difference in the classroom, in the  workplace and in the community.  Our goal is to help prepare youth to successfully handle the complexities of today’s society by teaching them social and life skills, as well as the value of good character.

The San Diego – Imperial Council’s Learning for Life programs serve young men and women in San Diego and Imperial counties. Our programs not only have a positive impact on the children but also on their families, schools and communities.

However, we need your help if our organization is going to continue to grow.  We hope to involve more students in our character and career instruction, thus giving them the opportunity to benefit from the written curriculum as well as the “hands on” experiences offered.

Your support of our campaign will enable us to expand. All sponsorships will make a difference in the lives of our youth, while those at the Benefactor, Patron and Donor levels will also receive recognition for their contributions.

Programs for Youth

Exploring

Exploring is  a   work-site based career exploration program that offers youth the opportunity to work with community organizations on a continuous basis, thus gaining valuable insights into a variety of careers. The Council’s  Explorer Posts link young adults with organizations such as  law enforcement, firefighting, border patrol, health and skilled trades.

Character Development

The Character Development program provides strategies to address today’s decline in values, with classroom-based educational programs that encourage youth to practice positive character traits and formulate strong personal principles.  Through this program, students are encouraged to make ethical choices and become more socially conscious individuals.

Career Awareness

The Career Awareness program is designed to help students overcome the challenges of the constantly changing job market. Thousands of high school students have been given the  opportunity to learn about a wide variety of jobs, in an effort to encourage them to stay in school and work towards a productive future.  Dedicated business leaders volunteer their time to educate and motivate these students.

Making a Difference

A national research study found that students who participate in the Learning for Life program develop a sense of personal and social responsibility. They learn to have respect for themselves and for others and are more likely to become citizens who participate in their communities.

Educators see the difference as well.  A Vice Principal at a participating middle school wrote “Learning for Life has made a great impact on our learning community. It helped our students to focus on making positive choices and taking responsibility for their words and actions. Our class referrals, school suspension and crime incidents were greatly reduced from last year.”

At the high school level, a Principal stated, “The Learning for Life Curriculum has made a measurable impact on our school’s Advisory program...The lessons are well  organized, contextual and provide opportunities for instructors to differentiate their delivery. Our students and faculty have had an overwhelmingly positive response to the lessons …”

Learning for Life programs build self-worth, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-discipline.  Youth develop a sense of fair play and team spirit along with a pride in both their physical and emotional well-being.  Participants come to understand the value of making good decisions while developing essential life skills which will give them the capacity to achieve their full potential.

Our Mission

It is the mission of Learning for Life to enable young people to become responsible individuals by teaching positive character traits, career development, leadership and life skills so they can make ethical choices and achieve their full potential.

Incorporated in 1991, Learning for Life was  developed to meet the critical needs of our nation’s schools and communities. An affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America, Learning for Life has served over 1.4 million youth nationwide.

Learning for Life programs  are designed for all age groups from Kindergarten through age 20.  Youth participation is open to any youth who meets the age criteria for that particular program.  No individual will be denied participation based on color, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, economic status or citizenship.
